I can throw in some numbers for Washington, DC area. For a family of 4.
Living wage: Accommodation ($800 apartment) + Food ($500 a month) + Vehicle, since most of America is not well served by public transportation ($400) + Entertainment, Communication, Clothes, Medicine etc ($500). Total = $2200 a month. Divide this by 160 hours a month and you will get $13.75.
So this is the minimum wage all jobs in Washington, DC area should be paying. Companies often get away with paying way below this amount. Then the society ends up paying the difference.
Congrads brother. You have posted one of the "most ridiculous and hillarious" posts ever!! Comparing Starbucks to picking strawberries??? Wow! why not compare strawberry picking to hollywood acting? Why is hollywood not employing ilegal aliens even when reportedly they need millions to produce a single movie? Tough questions eh?? or does it seem ilogical and crazy reasoning??
If you "pay enough" to the laborer, then who will pay for the produce at the walmart?? and how much is "pay enough" as per the current expectations?

I have a somewhat tangent but related question that I could not find a definite answer to while searching thru the various threads here -
What is the best way to change representation of one's case from the company lawyer to Self when you are changing jobs? Someone mentioned on one of the threads that one needs to file another G-28 form but I believe that is the case only if you are changing to a different attorney - please advise.
Also, does anyone have any experience with how long it takes for this change to take effect once communicated to USCIS?
Any insight into how to tackle this would be very helpful. Thanks!

Now I am working for a company in OPT .
My OPT start at 7/10/2006
My OPT end at 7/9/2007
add 60 days Grace period ,so the date will be 9/7/2007
So 9/7/2007 till 10/1/2007 will have 24 days GAP.
How can I do to solve it ?
You can not work after 7/9/2007.
The end of the OPT will determine when you must stop working.
The 60 days grace period is only for you to take care of business before you go back home. In your case you must wait for 2 months and 24 days before returning to work otherwise you will be in violation of your status.

Just got back from UK on Friday after a month of family time, medicals and our embassy interview! Wanted to let you all know that we were approved and happily back in the US!!
Congrats on the latest admin wins and movements in campaigns/projects. I wanted to say a huge thank you but not farewell to the many kind folks who kept my spirits high in the short time I have been with IV:

I got same audit in september as well
the guy came in to my desk and took pictures and i was asked to show my pay stubs
then they went to my hr and asked all questions
on being asked he said its the normal procedure
so no big deal , pls make sure if they coem to your office you should atleast have a copy of your paystubs

The AC21 requires you to have the new employer sign the AC21. What if the employer refuses to sign..??

Do you mean EB based AOS alone is 655K? 1.3 million is I-130 petition which is different from AOS.

It is too early to tell if it definitely refers to us, but it is more likely that this IS referring to EB and naturalization background checks. Reasoning is like this - Background checks are required by Department of State (DOS) for issuing Visas. Department of homeland security (DHS) under which USCIS comes is responsible for those within the US. Now background checks are not conducted for issuing H1B visa etc. They are only for EB/N-400. So it is more likely they are referring us. Secondly, just two months back USCIS announced that it is going through Ombudsman's report and would be preparing a response. Last month FBI's miller came out and suggested they are happy with main file checks (which take less than 2 days to come back automatically) and USCIS is insisting of doing reference file checks and they would be keen to work with USCIS to find ways of reducing backlog processing times. Some options included they way background checks are done, and also borrowing workers from USCIS for FBI's NNC unit. Finally, when the fee increase was announced USCIS mentioned some of the money would go to reduce processing times and FBI asked for increasing the name check fee from $2 to $9 which means now that the fees increase has been implemented more resources to reduce time may be implemented.
With scores of cases against USCIS and thousands of letters to congressmen and president and articles in NYT and WS Times, finally they may have realized that it is time they attended to the background check delays issue.

I was just preparing for the wrost case scenario. So thought to get the experience letter of my prior H1B. But right now, I am unable to get hold of any superivisor or co-worker. So is there any other option to get the experience letter.

Looks like your PD is current. You might get your GC anytime. That is another factor I would consider if your GC gets approved before you get married.
Filing six months in advance seems to be a better idea.

Thx a lot. I was so scared abt tht. I already have a job luckily my previous employer dind't cancel my H1 so used it and joined in a new firm
But these people started sendin' mails and callin' me so was jst scared will i have to loose tht money for nuthin' as well movin' from PHX to NY coseted me almost like $15000 more over tension in findin' a new job i was totally screwed for the past 2 months...

I need some guidance from experienced folks particularly those who hold MBBS degree from India and are already in US in medical profession.
My brother has received MBBS about 5 years go and he is doing his practice in rural area. His wife is also MBBS and also holds a diploma on OB/GYN area.
My question is if they want to immigrate to US what are various paths they can follow to get here?
